About Me!

Katie Doan is an entertainment writer specializing in critical media analysis and short documentary films. She graduated from California State University - Fullerton in 2022 with a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism.

She was the founder of FYBIG-BANG, a blog that provided updates on the K-Pop band, BIGBANG from 2014 to 2017 with 25,000 followers at its peak. Fascinated by the complexities of fandom culture, she made short documentaries of the BIGBANG VIP fandom (“We MADE It”) in 2016 and BTS ARMY (“Permission to Reunite”) in 2021.

Her bylines include The Daily Titan, OC News, WAVES Magazine, and K-Pop Concerts as contributing writer, editor, and producer. She has covered some of the biggest events in K-Pop, including: BTS, KCON, Coachella… the list goes on.

She also has a K-Pop commentary channel named “nhi’s space,” where she posts her musings on the K-Pop industry through lived experience as a K-Pop fan in the 2010s and extensive research.

Although her portfolio is limited to K-Pop, Katie wants to expand to cover other genres of music, television, film, and culture in general.

When Katie is not writing a review of a show or analyzing why people are obsessed with Jungkook’s corset at PTD Vegas, she is in activist spaces and trying her best to make the world a better place (Yes, she took what BTS said about “speaking yourself” seriously!). This is greatly reflected in how she writes to illustrate the impact of said piece of media.
